RE Curriculum Statement
The purpose of RE at Greenmount Primary School is to support the development of children’s own values and contribute to their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. This entails enabling children to interpret and respond to a variety of concepts, beliefs and practices within religions and to their own and others cultural and life experiences.
R.E plays a very important part in our broad, balanced and coherent curriculum to which all pupils are entitled to. The curriculum for R.E aims to ensure that pupils have opportunities to understand a range of religions and worldviews, express insights about the nature, significance and impact of worldviews and to develop the skills needed to engage with religions and worldviews. This is demonstrated through a variety of teaching techniques such as drama, art, discussion, use of artefacts, stories, pictures, periods of stillness and reflection.
Where possible we want our pupils to have opportunities to encounter local faith communities through visits to local places of worship or visits from members of local faith communities.
RE at Greenmount Primary School is taught in accordance with the legal requirements of the Agreed Syllabus for Hampshire, Living Difference III.
The principal aims of RE are:
- To provide a wide range of encounters with religion which will help them form a view of the world that they can apply to their own experiences.
- To encourage and develop children’s interest and opinions about simple concepts that are common to themselves and religions, and recognise and express their own values and beliefs.
- To enable children to consider the effects religion has on people’s lives.
