This week in Year 5….

This week year 5 have been writing a letter to Ernest Shackleton persuading him to let them be a part of his expedition crew. They have learnt about the qualities, skills and experience needed for various roles on-board Shackleton’s ship, The Endurance, as well as researching information about the crew.

In Maths, Ayres class have been comparing and ordering fractions with different denominators. They have also learnt how to convert mixed numbers and improper fractions. Hockney class have been learning how to do short division and solve multistep problems.

In Topic lessons, Ayres class have been learning about the invisible lines of the Earth (Latitude, Longitude, Equator, Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn, Artic circle and Antarctic circle).  Hockney class have been comparing Antarctica and the Arctic.

In Science lessons, we have been focusing on Forces this term. The children have learnt about Isaac Newton and the law of gravity. They enjoyed conducting an experiment to find out whether there is a link between Mass (Kg) and Weight (N).
