This week in Year 1…
We have been reading ‘Brown Bear’ by Bill Martin Jr. The children learned the story well enough to re-tell the story with actions. We have written sentences based on the story and practised using our capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In maths we have been looking at 1 more, 1 less using cubes and number lines. We are beginning to write this as an addition or subtraction number sentence.
In topic, we have been talking about people that help us and we are focussing on Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We looked at pictures of hospitals from a long time ago and compared them to photographs from today. The children were very good at sorting the pictures and spotting the differences.
We have also been learning the days of the week, months of the year and the seasons.
