This week in Reception…
We have been continuing to build on our understanding of rhyming. We have been practising our rhyming skills by going on a rhyme hunt to find and draw rhyming pairs and making rhyming strings, which involved finding three pictures that rhyme. During the week we have listened to the story of Oi Dog which introduced the children to even more rhyming pairs which they thoroughly enjoyed pointing out. This week our Maths learning has moved on to comparing the size of objects. The children had many opportunities to sort objects into size order with encouragement to use mathematical language (bigger, smaller, shorter, taller, longer etc.) to explain their work. Throughout our topic this week we have had a closer look at animals that hibernate using the story ‘Don’t Hog the Hedge’ to help us. Using this story knowledge, the children have then sorted animals into two groups based on whether they hibernate or do not.
Reading stars of the week are Luca and Amayah
These are two of the children who have read four/five times at home this week and were lucky to choose a special prize out of the treasure box! All children that have read this amount have received a house point.
