This week in Year 5…

This week, Year 5 have been creating  Viking mythical creatures and writing a character description. We have looked at the significance of Anglo-Saxon kings (King Alfred the Great and King Athelstan) during the Viking period. The children also explained who King Ethelred II was and why Danegeld was introduced.

In Science, the children have been learning about properties of materials in Hockney class, whilst Ayres class have been focusing on thermal conductors and insulators. The children have enjoyed investigating the best thermal insulator for the lining of a lunchbox.

In Maths, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 1,000,000. We have been working with negative numbers and adding/subtracting using mental strategies, as well as introducing the relationship between fractions and decimal numbers.
