Island Basketball Finals
Having qualified for the island finals Greenmount had 2 teams competing in this event. In all there were 12 teams from across the island, involved, all had qualified by either winning or coming second in their respective cluster competitions.
Both teams were placed in a group of 6 and played in a league format with the winners and runners up of each group progressing to the semi finals stage.
Greenmount A W 2 D2 L1 overall position 6th
Greenmount B W0 D2 L3 overall position 10th
Greenmount A; Competition in this section was tight, with every team capable of winning this group . We were very unlucky to not to make the semi finals having narrowly lost out on points. A bit more luck and accuracy with shooting could have seen us top the group. We actually came 3rd, but just 2 points below the winners.
Greenmount B; Were placed in a strong group who eventually produced the 2 teams to represent the island at the Hants Games. This team were the Ryde cluster winners but could not find the same level of performance today. In the last 2 games they did regain their passing form to create some great scores and secured 2 draws and could have won these games. However Queensgate and Brightstone in this group were very strong and eventually went on to be the overall winners and runners up in the whole competition.
Team games require good teamwork, today we were beaten by teams who simply displayed better team working skills than us. Well done to all our players. The next competition is Handball and we will be working hard to prepare children to represent the school to compete against other schools from across the island.
