U11 Girls Football

Binstead v Greenmount U11 Girls Cup 1/4 Final.

On a lovely sunny afternoon on the last Friday of the term we travelled the short distance to Binstead  to play in the quarter finals of the U11 Girls football cup.

The game was barely a minute old when Binstead scored a very early goal to take the lead. This seemed to rally our players and we started to play. Both teams started to create opportunities to score and both GKs had to pull off fine saves to keep the shots out Florence pulled off a great stop to thwart a certain goal from a low shot.. Greenmount then produced a great move down the right side with Darcey skipping past 2 tackles to cross the ball which found Isla in the box to stab it home 1-1.

Binstead always looked a threat and our defenders Liana, Nicole and Charlotte worked hard to make tackles and deny space. In Midfield Ray won nearly every ball and played some great forward passes to set our attackers off. However Binstead added to their tally with a fantastic shot that would have beaten any GK. In fact the ref had to check the net to make sure it had not gone through a hole in the side netting such was the power and angle of the strike. The goal stood and at half time we went in 2-1 down.

In the second half we had more of the play, a change of formation saw Flo playing outfield and Evie G in goal. Both teams mounted attacks and both defences stood firm. Until Darcey managed to get beyond the Binstead defence to fire a shot into the roof of the net; 2-2, With the game looking like it would go to extra time both teams dropped off to defend. A through ball from Ray eluded the defenders and Isla ran on to it dribbling goal wards from just inside the Binstead half driving into the box she toe poked the ball past the advancing GK to put us into the lead. 2-3. Binstead knew they had to score and threw everything forward and nearly stole the equaliser but for the outstretched foot of Evie to make a game saving stop and turn the ball around the post for a corner. We defended the corner well and the final whistle blew. Binstead 2-3 Greenmount.

Greenmount progress to the semi finals next half term. Well played girls.
