U11 Boys Football

Having tied on points with the 2 other teams in our U11 football league pool. We needed to hold a playoff tournament to decide the group winners and who would progress to the knockout stages.
Greenmount v Gatten & Lake
This is a game in which we dominated the play but for long periods we didn’t really pose a threat to the G&L goal. However this all changed with 7 minutes to go when a well won tackle in midfield and a great through pass found James in front of goal to roll the ball into the corner of the net. 1-0. Shortly after this a thunder shot from Harry found the top corner 2-0. Harry followed this up with an even better goal with another thunderbolt into the roof of the net giving the GK no chance. 3-0. Some great defending from Ollie, Jayden and Kanye kept things secure at the back. While Callum, Darcey and Freddy were everywhere chasing down balls and setting up attacks.
A good battling performance with a well deserved win.
Greenmount 3-0 Gatten & Lake.
Holy Cross and Gatten & Lake then played out a 3-1 win to Holy Cross leaving us needing to win the last game to progress.
Greenmount v Holy Cross.
This was a game in which both teams battled hard for the win. The game was end to end with Greenmount having the better possession and playing same great football at times. Greenmount carved out 2 great chances with Callum hitting the bar with a fantastic long range shot and Harry shooting just wide form a narrow angle. However despite some great defending Holy Cross created a chance that produced an outstanding save from Ollie but it was a Holy Cross player who reacted the quicker to the rebound to smash home the ball… 0-1.  Greenmount continued to press but were just unable to steal the equaliser to take the game to extra time.
Greenmount 0-1 Holy Cross
Another great battling performance, but this time without the result the team deserved, But that’s football!!
