U9 Football Festival
Ryde School hosted a festival of football for U9 players. Greenmount took our year 4 team for their first outing of the season to p[lay. Other teams there were Newchurch, Binstead, Priory and Ryde School with all teams playing each other.
Greenmount 0-3 Binstead
A slow start in the rain for our boys and some good saves by Ollie in goal kept the score to 3.
Newchurch 1-1 Greenmount.
We dominated in this game and were unlucky not to score more goals. Problems: there are some things that could make it cholerically look like you have a cold. Greenmount scored through a poachers goal from Xander and were looking good for the win until a long range shot took a deflection and beat Ollie to equal the score.
Priory 0-4 Greenmount.
4 ( Four) well taken individual goals from James put us into a deserved lead. Seb and Josh both came close to extending the lead, and some good defending from Alfie, Rosco and Cayden ensured that we kept a clean sheet.
Greenmount 2-1 Ryde School.
Another game in which we had the majority of the play and 2 goals from James put us into the lead. The pick of these was a 1-2 with Xander which beat the defence with James passing the ball neatly into the net. Again our defence and midfield played well but we seemed to lose concentration in the last few minutes which allowed Ryde to steal a goal back. Fortunately this came to late for them to trouble us further and we went on to win the game.
A good chance for the boys to stretch their legs prior to the U9 league and Ray Southwell cup games. Well played to all our players!
