Greenmount 2-4 Barton

Our year 5 football team were in action this week with a league fixture against a strong Barton side.

Greenmount took the lead from a well taken volley from James Davis . The first half was an even affair with both sides playing some great football on a difficult sticky pitch. Barton then capitalised on a series of missed Greenmount chances to clear the ball and scored an equaliser. Greenmount soon doubled their tally with a rasping shot from the edge of the penalty area by Harry Portsmouth. Barton then scored again to make the HT score 2-2

In the second half it was Barton who started the brightest and Kanye in goal needed to pull off a string of great saves to keep us in the game. Jayden Pocock and Jack Ronan put in some strong tackles in defence to keep Barton out. With our midfield of James, Freddie and Finnley starting to link well with Harry and Darcey up front we then started to threaten the Barton goal again forcing a series of corners which were just begging for someone to finish off. Finnley produced 2 clever volleys from corners by Jack but both just went the wrong side of the post into the side netting.

Barton then counter attacked and scored a  third. The end to end battle continued but it was Barton who were able to take their chances adding a fourth goal to win the match 2-4.

Although we lost this was the best team performance of the season. Every player gave their all and we looked like a team. It could have gone either way today and either team could have won. But it was Barton who took their chances to steal the win.

I’m very happy with the team performance and the players can be very proud of their efforts!
