U11 Football – Girls

On Wednesday 11th  October our U11 Girls football team played out a thrilling cup game with Binstead. Greenmount were the strongest team throughout the first half and went into half time with a 1-0  lead following a shot by Isabelle Furnell which deflected off of Lilly Chase and past the Binstead keeper. Both girls have claimed the goal and so we are happy to chalk it up as a joint effort! The second half saw Binstead make a positional change by swapping an outfield player with the goal keeper. This made an impact with Binstead starting to create more attacks into the Greenmount half. Our defence stood strong with some excellent blocks and tackles going in from all players and if the defence was breached Robyn Baisley in goal was there to keep Binstead out. However a goal for Binstead finally came to equal the score to 1-1. This sent the game into extra time which saw no further addition to the scoreline and so we went to the dreaded penalty shootout which Binstead won 2-1.

Overall a very exciting game and a fantastic performance from all of our players. With more league games to come the future looks bright for our girls and they will have further opportunities to continue to develop as players. There are currently girls development schemes and teams looking for players across the island. Any players interested in playing football are welcome to attend. Please ask Mr Harris for information.
