National Danone Cup Competition – Girls

On Monday 18th September our U11 girls football team played their first matches of the new school season in the national Danone Cup. This is a national competition with a similar format to the FA Cup. Initially schools are grouped locally but as teams progress this becomes a national event. Our group consisted of Greenmount, Haylands and Broadlea.

Our first match saw us matched up with Broadlea and in a closely contested game. Greenmount took and early lead. However Broadlea made a dramatic comeback and managed to score twice to secure the points.

In the second game Greenmount faced Haylands who had narrowly lost 1-0 to Broadlea so it was all to play for to gain a win. This match saw Greenmount defend well and create a number of great chances which unfortunately we were unable to turn into goals. The defence stood firm and no goals were conceded to secure a 0-0 draw.

This was a good opportunity for our girls team to gain some match experience and they played very well in both games. We lost narrowly in one match and gained a draw in the other which bodes well for future games! We are entered into the U11 league and cup and so with some training at the after school club the development will continue.
