Girls U11 Football

On Tuesday 11/12 we entertained Lanesend who are the current island champions in the girls U11 football competition. Greenmount started the game brightly and created a couple of scoring opportunities but the Lanesend defence were able to keep us out. Lanesend then started to play and quickly started to threaten our goal and went ahead with a well drilled shot into the corner. The game continued to be even at this point but it was Lanesend who broke away to  score again just before half time to go 2-0 up.

The second half continued in much the same way and although we played some good football at times and battled hard in defence and in midfield we could not find that all important finish and it was Lanesend who scored a further 2 goals to win the game.
FT  Greenmount 0-4 Lanesend.
“Although this was a loss, there were many positives to take from the game. I was very pleased with some of our passing and at times we combined well to move the ball forward. Evie in goal produced some great saves to keep the score to 4. There was certainly no shortage of effort and commitment but we must learn not to let the scoreline effect us and to keep playing until the end. It only takes a second to score a goal! Well played girls, another league game to play on Friday and another chance to continue with your development as players.”
