Year 6 Blogs from The Midnight Gang adapted play.
The Midnight Gang Blog:
By Maisie and Phoebe
We had an amazing time at the Chichester Festival Theatre watching The Midnight Gang. The play was extremely funny and we would recommend it to everyone.
We arrived at school at the normal time (8:45 am); we then got on the coach outside the school gates. When we got off the coach, we got on the boat to Gunwharf Quays. After we finally got to Portsmouth, we walked to the next coach which took us to Chichester Festival Theatre.
What the play was about:
There was a boy called Tom, who got hit on the head by a cricket ball and got taken to Lord Funt Hospital. He went to a ward with 4 other children (Robin, Sally, Amber, and George). Porter is the porter that takes everyone and everything in and around the hospital. Doctor Luppers was a newly graduated doctor; he is really worried about everything.
Matron was cruel and even though she was the matron of the children’s ward, she absolutely despises children. Amber, Robin, and George are a part of The Midnight Gang. Every night at midnight, the 3 children would sneak out of the hospital and try and make one of their dreams come true. On the first night, they snuck out, and Tom caught them and asked if he could come. After quite a bit of persuasion, they finally let Tom join The Midnight Gang! Other cool things that happened during the play like Amber got to go to the North Pole (the hospital freezer), George – well George’s dream didn’t go to plan. Nelly flew away with all the balloons and her clothes fell off when she was lifted up into the sky: she flew around London naked!
Sir Quentin Strillers’ found out about The Midnight Gang, and gave the porter the sack…
We really recommend watching the play to find out what happens, we also recommend you to read the book!
Thank you for reading our blog, hope you enjoyed!
The Midnight Gang
On 30th October 2018, the whole of KS2 went on an amazing trip to Chichester Festival Theatre to watch “The Midnight Gang” by David Walliams. I thought that it was the best play that I have ever watched in my life; it was hilarious! When we were about 10 minutes into the play, I knew it would be very, very humorous.
The day started off, as usual, come to school and at about 8:30, we got on the coach and went to Blue Funnel, Cowes. When we got on the boat, everyone was very excited and it got very loud. When we arrived in Gunwharf Quays, we got off and walked to the next coach.
The next coach ride took about one hour. At Chichester theatre, we had lunch and we went outside and ran around. Then we went into the theatre to watch the play.
The play was about this boy called Tom; Tom was a very brave and confident character. He was rushed into hospital because he had banged his head while playing cricket. Dr.Luppers was a very new doctor and he had only just qualified, he got scared of everything! After Tom had finished with Dr.Luppers, he was taken up to the children’s ward. This was the part when Tom met the Midnight Gang (Amber, George, Robin) and Sally who had cancer so, she was always sleeping and wasn’t really in the Midnight Gang. On the first night of him being there, Amber, George, and Robin set off on their adventure to make Amber’s dream come true, but when no one was looking, Tom tried to sneak out but Sally woke up. She asked Tom where he was going. The only thing he could say was “nowhere”. The rest of the play was extraordinary but we will leave the rest for you to find out! After the play had finished, we got on the coach and went to the boat (Blue Funnel) when we got there we went on the boat and went back to the island, got home and relaxed.
The Midnight Gang (play)
by Cosima, Caitlin, and Amber
We (my class and l) arrived at the Chichester Festival Theatre at about 12:00 to watch The Midnight Gang at about 02:05 pm. The first thing that we did was to have some lunch. After lunch, some people, including me, put our dreams onto the dream board. As well as this, we all went outside to play on their enormous fields. However, we only had 5 minutes because the play was about to start! After a few minutes, we went into the auditorium and sat down in our groups. About 5 minutes later, the play finally started.
The setting was at Lord Funt Hospital (London). As soon as the play started the main character (Tom) was getting pushed on a trolley by the porter. Dr. Luppers (the new doctor) asked Tom some questions; however, Tom could not even answer the 1st question (what is your name?). Tom got hit on the head by a cricket ball and has a bump on his head.
After answering all the questions, he was taken up to the children’s ward where there were 4 other children called: Robin, Amber, George, and Sally. Robin had an eye operation, Amber had 2 broken legs and 2 broken arms. George had his tonsils taken out and Sally had cancer. Amber, George, Robin and the porter had a secret gang called the midnight gang where they fulfill each other’s dreams. The Gang goes out every night at midnight after putting the strict Matron to sleep. Tom joined the Gang when it was Amber’s turn.
It was George’s turn now; however, it was going to be difficult because George wanted to fly. In the end, they decided to collect all the balloons in the hospital. The porter and Tom were in one team. Whilst they were collecting they came across the oldest Lady in the hospital, Nelly (99), who thought she was still a child! Nelly thought one of the balloons was from her dad!
After they had collected all the balloons they gave them to George. At that moment Nelly came and George accidentally gave her the balloons. Nelly floated up and crashed through the ceiling and ripped her pyjamas of! After a while, the Gang managed to catch her. When they came back, Sir Quentin Strillers sacked the porter and banned the Midnight Gang!
The next morning Tom’s principal came to collect him. Tom ran away from him and hid with the porter. Back in the children’s ward Sally’s cancer had become worse. Tom gave his dream to Sally, so The Midnight Gang had one last adventure for her. Sally wished for a big beautiful life so that was what the Gang gave her.
As soon as Sir Quentin Strillers saw this, he changed the Matron’s job to toilet cleaning. Furthermore, he made the porter in charge of the children’s ward.
My partner and I had a brilliant view and would recommend it to everyone. We had a brilliant time and enjoyed every part of it.
